When I heard that my former elementary school, Glen Street Public School, was putting on a spring market fundraiser, I jumped at the chance to participate and, in a small way, pay forward the support the school had given me as a young person and budding writer.
April 5th, Quips & Quills Bookshop will be on the road to my hometown of Oshawa, Ontario.
I am very much looking forward to, once again, walking the halls of the school I attended from Kindergarten to Grade Six. I went back briefly in Junior High to help with the production of the annual school musical, but I haven’t been back since.
Glen Street Public School is where I wrote my first works of fiction, The House of Doom and The Haunted Jar.
Glen Street serves as both the physical and emotional setting of my upcoming middle-grade story, Joey’s Not A Basketball Pro. The story is part of a 10-story anthology called You Never Know What You’re Going To Get, to be released May 2nd. It’s on pre-sale now if you wish to ensure you have a copy on publication day!

I am very excited to enter those doors, having made good on the promise I made to myself all those years ago that I would, one day, be a published author.
Quips & Quills will be attending the event with five books written by me, as well as a poetry journal to which I have contributed called Natural Connections.
I think little Abbie would be very proud.
We will also have a great selection of diverse books written by local Durham Region authors, as well as indie and traditionally published Canadian writers, and many others! Our selection will feature stories that range from kidlit to memoir, and all genres in between for all types of book lovers.
Come out to Glen Street Public School on April 5th to help raise funds for deserving kids in the area and assist educators in creating a space where kids can dream.
If you support them, dreams really can come true!
